Sunday

Today Piper somehow managed to take a piece of paper and slice it across her cornea during Sunday school. She told me her eye hurt and had a wet paper towel on it and I figured she had somehow hit it on something. When I asked what happened she just said she hurt it. Later I got out of her that she somehow slid a piece of paper across her eye. We went into the worship service and I realized it obviously was hurting a lot and she started crying so we left and went to the ER. They numbed her eye and put dye in and showed me the little slice across her cornea. We got antibiotic ointment and Motrin and headed home. She has to see the ophthalmologist tomorrow.

This evening we went out and got pizza and sat outside at some tables on the sidewalk. The kids loved it and it was a nice evening. We left there and got ice cream and went home and read together. We are finishing up a book and they wanted to hear the ending. It was just a nice quiet summer evening.

I love to see Bethany and Tess together. They have become such good friends. They are together all the time playing and talking and laughing. Tess has only been here three years, but you would think they had been sisters since birth. As soon as we got to the pizza place they were off together watching the ducks and calling them and then later feeding them. I love this picture of them.

Summer

Summer afternoon - summer
afternoon; to me those have
always been the two most
beautiful words in the
English language.

New Project

Bethany told me she is working on an new project - making a stuffed cat. She just started on it and said she planned to work on it over the next few days and hopefully have it finished by the weekend. She has several doctor appointments this week so she doesn't have but so much time. Her CF appointment is tomorrow, and it will probably take at least 3 or so hours and then she will have to get an x-ray. But, there is plenty of time this summer to work on sewing projects and I hope both she and Tess learn to sew a few new things.

We picked flowers out of our garden for the first time today since they seem to really be coming in now.

Joy

Late this afternoon we got a delivery from Amazon Prime Now and I was confused as to why  -because I had not ordered anything. The guy asked about my address and name and said it was definitely ours and I knew almost immediately it was probably something from my daughter, Megan. In case you don't remember, Megan lives in Louisiana and we went to visit her last spring when she had twins. Anyway, I called her and and yes it was her that sent ice cream, cones and popsicles to the kids. She even sent gluten free cones so Claire could have them. The kids were overjoyed with this delivery and all the ice cream. What could be more fun than a summer evening and ice cream?

Another Dedication

Today my daughter Meredith and husband Ben had little Finn dedicated. It was lovely and really kind of special as Finn wore the same dress that Meredith was dedicated in as a baby in the exact same church. I'm so glad they did this.

Reagan

Today was Reagan's (granddaughter) end of the year program at her school. One of my daughters came to babysit for me so I could go and see it. It was such a sweet program and all the kids looked so cute. Reagan was sad to end this year - sounds funny for a kid to not want school to end, but it's true. The kids sang and there was a little slide show and I have to say they did a wonderful job. Congratulations, Reagan - you did a great job this year and now you are ready for first grade.

Badminton

Bethany got a badminton set for her birthday and the kids all just love it. It has given them hours and hours of fun and I have enjoyed watching them and remembering how I used to play as a child. I so enjoy seeing the kids find something they love to play so much that they don't want to come inside to eat or do anything. They played last night till I had to make them come in.

What We Are Reading

We had a good month reading and now that we are into June we will probably read even more. We read quite a lot of books this past month but I will just name a few of our favorites. After we finished All-Of-A-Kind Family we started Rainbow Garden by Patricia St. John. We loved this book. It is about a little girl named Elaine that has been rather spoiled. She is sent to live with the Owen family in Wales and she is very unhappy when she first arrives. She finds a little garden that she loves and as she spends time there she begins to feel better and starts to take more interest in the Owen family. The garden becomes very important to her and makes everything seem worthwhile.  It is really a beautiful story and has such a nice ending. We all hated for the book to end. We are planning on reading more books by Patricia St. John this summer.

We also read Heidi by Johanna Spyri. This book was also a hit and the kids asked several times a day for me to read it. I don't remember ever reading this book to any of my kids so I really enjoyed reading it to the kids for the first time. It was a great book and I'm pretty sure most people know the story.

We read several others, but the last book I will mention is More All-Of-A-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor. We started this book yesterday so we haven't read that much, but so far we like it. It's funny because sometimes I don't think the kids really care for a certain book and then realize they love it. This series is one of those. I kind of thought they were a little bored when we finished the first book but they immediately asked me to order another one from the series - so I did.

Finn came by to visit me again today. I love it when he comes and he always looks so adorable.
