Baskets

Today Bethany and Tess worked on making small baskets. It took several hours, but they both finished and their baskets are really cute. I got a picture of Bethany's finished but had to run out before Tess finished hers and didn't get a picture of hers completed. But, they both looked really nice and they had fun working on them. They said they might try making another one from some instructions we have in one of our pioneer books we have been reading. It does thrill me to see the things they come up with.

Bethany has started learning to play the piano - well, teaching herself mostly with a little help from me. We will get her a teacher at some point, but right now she is doing great just learning notes and practicing easy songs from a beginner book we bought. She is just starting to practice some Christmas songs and I love hearing Christmas music. Today Zola was practicing Christmas music on the harp and then Bethany on the piano and it just made my day.

Another Big Sister Treat

This afternoon the kids were playing outside and we got a delivery. It was another treat from another big sister, Anna. She sent all the kids Sonic Blasts and they absolutely loved them! It made for a great afternoon treat. Like I have said before - big sisters are great!

Fall

We have been back to school now for three weeks and it's really going well so far. It was kind of nice to get back on a schedule. We have been reading a lot as usual, and I have been looking for some new books to read - not necessarily new, but new to us. Right now we are reading Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt and the kids seem to like it ok, but probably not their favorite. We have also been reading a lot of books on autumn and nature since this is about my favorite time of year.

We made our pumpkin muffins for the first day of autumn as usual.

Reagan, Asher, Finn and Georgia also came to visit and Reagan and Tess did a lot of baking - something they both love to do.

I have blogged so little in the past couple of months it is kind of hard to get back into doing it. I want to keep the blog up though as the kids love to look at it and use it as a kind of journal. So, I am going to try to do a better job of getting on here. We are planning to try to get out a little this fall because we have not gone anywhere all spring or summer. We won't be going to places with a lot of people, but probably do more nature walks, and we plan on apple picking and pumpkin carving. Once we apple pick I'm sure we will be baking and baking and I am hoping Reagan, my granddaughter, will be able to come over and help make apple pies and apple crumble and apple turnovers. We are ready for fall.

Big Sisters

It's been a long time since I have written here and it has actually been kind of hard to get back on here and write again. When so much time goes by I have a hard time picking back up and writing.

We have been staying home most of the time and getting ready for our new school year. We have our new books and all our supplies and the kids can't stay out of our new boxes of books. I am ready and they are ready. I think we will have a good year and we have tons of new books to read together.

This post was supposed to be about sisters - big sisters to be exact. Big sisters are especially wonderful. This morning, Megan, sent us breakfast from Panera and it was so good. We had muffins, muffin tops and all kinds of bagels with cream cheese. There was so much stuff and the kids were so excited. I went upstairs to tell Sarah that Megan had sent breakfast and she was out of the bed in like 30 seconds. So excited. It was a beautiful morning and felt a little like fall and some of us ate our breakfast on the front porch and it was so nice. Big sisters are great and all my kids will agree with that. Thanks Megan!
