Their Club House

The kids have been outside all day long for the past few days. They said they were working on a club house in the bushes. For some reason all my kids have loved playing in those bushes and this isn't the first time some kid has made a fort or club there. Anyway, they ate dinner in it last night and called me out to see it when they were done eating and cleaning. This is how I think of summer - kids playing all day - not wanting to come inside to even eat. They have had a blast the past few days and I'm so glad they have finally found something they want to do most of the day - we have had some  days of kids sitting around with seemingly nothing to do lately. 

As soon as Tess got out of bed this morning she said she was going out to her club so I think this will be another day of summer fun for them -- and its such a small, simple thing. It consists of dirt and bushes and a calendar on the fence. Oh, and they did put a small rocking chair in there. 

Ice Cream

We finally made ice cream this summer. Pulled our ice cream maker out of our shed and found a recipe on the internet and everybody joined in. It was fun and we now have another thing off the list of things we wanted to do this summer. The recipe was so simple and it really was good. 

Sunday Morning

Today Bethany sang a solo in church. I only have a small clip because as I was recording it my daughter called and cut the video off. I quickly declined the call and turned the camera back on, but it obviously messed up my recording. My daughter said it was actually her three year old that did it and not her. So, I only have a short clip of her singing, but wanted to post it anyway. 

So Excited!

Today Bethany got a DexCom G6 and we are so excited. This will end her getting stuck to check blood sugar 5 and 6 times a day. She said her fingers were so sore she could hardly pick up things. Now - no more sticks. This device checks her blood sugar continuously, and we will know at all times how she is doing.  She even has an alarm for blood sugar reading that are too high or low. It is on the back of her arm and she barely knows it is there and it only has to be changed every 10 days. This is so great. 

Bethany

Today at church Bethany went forward and accepted Christ and will be baptized in a few weeks. We were all so very happy. This is our third child this year to accept Christ. 

Sherbet

I think the beautiful colors of sherbet are just so summery. I think of summer whenever it is mentioned. Maybe because my grandmother would buy it when I was there for the summer and we would sit outside on summer evenings and eat it. My kids love it, I think, just because of the colors. We bought it for the first time this summer and it was enjoyed by everyone - except Sarah. She almost never eats any ice cream that is not chocolate or vanilla. No convincing her it is good. 

I think we are going to try to make homemade ice cream this next week. I keep saying it, but haven't gotten around to actually doing it. It is always fun to make it yourself and the kids love to watch and wait for it. 

So Hot

As hot as it was today, these girls played outside almost all day long and they look pretty hot and grimey.

Summer Projects

Last week Bethany wanted to go get some art and craft supplies for herself and the kids. She had some money so she bought a bunch of different things - masks to paint, furniture for the doll house, bird houses to paint, etc. Then the kids had a day after Bible School that they got out the paints and other art supplies and spent a few hours having fun. It was good to see them having so much fun doing this as they really haven't done a lot of crafts or art this summer and I kind of miss seeing what they make and all the ideas they come up with. 

Bible School

This week the kids went to Bible School and, as usual, they had so much fun. They absolutely love Bible School. Bethany even managed to climb out of bed at 6:15 so she could get her treatments and vest done before she left and Bethany is not an early riser. But, for this she managed to get up and quickly check her blood sugar, get her insulin, eat and start all her treatments. I think tonight she is actually so exhausted that she's just glad she can sleep tomorrow. She is definitely not a morning person. 

Today the kids came home with bags full of stuff they got on the last day. You would have thought it was Christmas at our house as they went through all their stuff. They were so excited going through everything and showing me what they got. 

Their afternoons were then spent outside on our hammock most days this week. They love our new hammock.
