I have never like crafts or been a crafty person. My older children can vouch for that. I almost never did crafts with them. Somehow, Bethany seems to have changed that. She loves crafts. She is always wanting to make something or paint something or look through a craft book. I have actually started to enjoy finding things for her to do and make. So unlike me.
About a week or so ago I found Bethany and Andrew with some cardboard and scissors making something. I couldn't imagine what it was by looking. They said it was a doll house. Bethany continued to work on it for several days and finally finished. It didn't really look like much but she sure loved making it.
Then the other day she said she had to paint it. Doesn't look very sturdy -- does it?
So she spent an hour or so painting and fixing it up a little. Looks like something is falling off -- maybe.
This child just loves working on some project or another.
She is almost always happy and so energetic and full of life. Sometimes it is hard to believe that she has a disease that can be so devastating.
She takes her treatments -- that are so time consuming -- in stride most of the time.
She is just a joy to be around. She painted and painted and loved every minute of making this little house. I enjoyed just watching -- and taking pictures to remember this day.
She probably won't ever play with this house, as making it is the real fun for her.
Just about done. She said she had to redo some things another day -- maybe fix the garage. I asked what the straws were and she said they were small chimneys for small stoves or fireplaces.
That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteI think she did a wonderful job on her little dollhouse! I'm very impressed :)
ReplyDeleteThat is one GREAT dollhouse! Very creative.
ReplyDeleteNow, how about making furniture?
Dollhouse furniture can be easy to make: empty spools (stools, chair and table bases), fabric scraps (upholstery, curtains, bedding), little boxes, hairspray caps (drinking glasses), ribbons (curtain tie-backs), construction paper, cardboard, yarn can all be easily turned into cute furnishings.
Keep up the good work!

Susan, what a good idea! I just read your comment to Bethany and I think she may try making some furniture.
DeleteGreat! I hope Bethany (and her brother and sisters) will continue to have fun with her wonderful dollhouse.
DeleteBTW, scrapbooking paper makes good (and very inexpensive) wallpaper. Good for practicing measuring skills, too.
I recently visited the toy and miniature museum in Kansas City - fabulous place. I also live close to the Great American Dollhouse Museum in Danville, Ky - wish Bethany and her siblings could see it. The big dollhouse in the Smithsonian Museum of American History is probably the best one reasonably close to you. Colonial Williamsburg has some cool dollhouses, but they seem to be in storage at present, alas.
However, Bethany has done just great on her own with this project, and I hope she'll continue to have fun with it.
Best wishes,
Susan in Kentucky (again)
Scrapbook paper for wallpaper! That's a wonderful idea! I would never have thought of it, but as I said, I am not crafty. Thanks.
DeleteBeautiful! Love the details! I tend to love the process of creating more than the completed job too!!! Drives my family crazy! Tom says its "make work", but I'm always creating! ;o)
ReplyDelete((((((HUGS))))))))) to all!
I am NOT creative at all, but I am starting to actually think about a few projects to do. Bethany had finally rubbed off on me a little.
