Today was the first day of our Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas. All the kids were excited to start and this is our third year of doing this. We started doing this after reading the book The Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas by Madeleine L' Engle. In the book the Austin family does something special every single day before Christmas. We thought it would be fun to do the same thing and it has really been something we look forward to doing. We do not make this a lot of work or a lot of money. We just do something small and fun or something for someone each day leading up to Christmas. I don't want to make this stressful or lots of work, but something we can do together each day for this season.
Today our special thing was to make a Christmas tree for the birds and squirrels. We have done this before and the kids always enjoy doing it. We got popcorn, peanut butter, cranberries, oranges and bird seed and the kids made a bunch of stuff to hang on a tree out back. It was a big success and a huge mess. Our floor was covered with bird seed and berries and popcorn. They actually worked on this for well over an hour and everyone had a lot of fun. Then we took everything outside and hung it all on a tree.
I also gave all the kids their Christmas PJs tonight so maybe we did two things today. I wanted them to have them for the entire month and they love getting new ones.
It was a nice day and we were all glad that Evelyn and Liam were able to be here to join in.
Yay! This is my favorite time of the year because we get lots of posts and Christmassy photos to enjoy! I'm sure the birds around your house were thrilled with today's special project :)
