The Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas - Day 3

Today our special thing was to make spice ornaments for our kitchen tree. The kids had fun, but it was very messy and the dough was really sticky. Maybe we didn't do it exactly right - when you have several kids adding ingredients it's easy to make a small mistake. But, they turned out great and we will put them on the tree tomorrow. It said to let them sit and dry for 3-5 days or if you want you can bake in a 200 degree oven for an hour. Baking was our choice. They looked good when they came out of the oven and tomorrow we will put stings in and hang. I will add the recipe here in case anyone wants to try making some.

No-Bake Spiced Dough Ornaments:

1 cup ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon ground cloves

1 tablespoon ground ginger

1 tablespoon ground nutmeg

1 cup applesauce

2 tablespoon white craft glue

A few tablespoons of all purpose flour - just to knead the dough with

Directions:

Combine the dry ingredients (except flour) in a mixing bowl. Add the applesauce and glue.

Mix all the ingredients with your hands until they are mixed thoroughly.

Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to approximately 1/4-inch thickness.

Cut dough with cookie cutters into various shapes. Bore a hole in the top of each ornament with a straw.

Lay ornaments out flat to dry at room temperature for 3-5 days turning often or bake in a 200 degree oven for 1 hour.
